PNG GFA National Fishing Titles

The National Titles in PNG is a spectacle, with boats coming in from other provinces and overseas. The corporate hospitality is second to none, and there are upwards of 250 anglers each year participating.

The GFA is proud to support the National Titles each year and delivers on our remit of increasing participation in fishing in PNG.

The Titles rotates between the four clubs each year, in the following order: Port Moresby- East New Britain (Kokopo)- Madang- Lae. In our history of running the PNG GFA National Fishing Titles, we have only missed one tournament in our history during the Covid-19 period and it’s a testament to quality of the fishing and exceptional angler engagement within PNG.

A warm welcome to all guests attending the 45th National Game Fishing Titles hosted by the Madang Game Fishing Club in Madang Province. Thank you for making the effort to join our event! We look forward to playing host to anglers who seek the great fishing and comradery we have to offer over the 9 days.

The National Titles provides anglers the opportunity to travel across this beautiful country and share a favourite pastime.The Madang Titles is hosted in the midst of the town and yet the support we have received from visiting anglers and particularly visiting boats in the past, continues to drive us forward to meet the challenges every Titles brings.

Our Club aims to continue to provide fishing events that encourage anglers, families and friends to get out on the water. We are blessed with accessible and productive waters that provide lots of choices for fishing in all corners of the province. Our coastline provides ample options for anglers of all interests from billfish alongside island chains, seamounts, undersea volcanos and deep-water trenches to pelagics along nearby sheltered bays, barrier reefs, rivers and offshore reefs.

Madang has been a favourite destination for anglers for generations. Recently in November 2021 Madang Anglers shattered local and national records for marlin, with a staggering 121 Black Marlin hook up and landed over the 4-day 2nd PNG National Challeng Tournament. In light of this billfish bonanza, we hope to have stirred the fishing interest of those who are keen to test their mettle against the abundant game fish we have to offer.

The work that goes into hosting a National Titles cannot be understated particularly for our small Club. A big thank you to our Committee that has put in a huge effort towards making this Titles come together. Thank you to the Madang Club and Committee who continue to support the Titles this year by providing the venue for our event.
